Bad/Good

The bad news: I wasn’t able to attend the group PT (physical fitness) sessions on Monday at 5:00 pm or Wednesday at noon, so I have to attend the 6:00 am session tomorrow (Friday morning)…which means that my morning routine will be disrupted and I won’t be able to watch “The Green Hornet” at 5:30 am. Grrrr.

The good news: check out this weather forecast – we’ve got (a) very cold temps certain, and (b) snow very likely.

Color me happy! With almost no snow this season yet, I’m practically *begging* for some of that fluffy white goodness!

Ten Words

The ten words looked up most often at M-W.com in 2004:

1. blog
2. incumbent
3. electoral
4. insurgent
5. hurricane
6. cicada
7. peloton
8. partisan
9. sovereignty
10. defenestration

The challenge, of course, is to compose a relatively coherent paragraph using all ten words. Any takers?

Why WP?

Why the switch from Movable Type to WordPress? I’ve been using WP for the Big Sky Blog since August, and been reasonably impressed with the simplicity & ease of use. Second, I really enjoy the ability to switch out stylesheets in seconds (and change back, too!). Third, the re-building on MT was really, really starting to annoy me – and kinda scare me a bit, too. With 2,000 entries and nearly 6,000 comments, it took quite a while to rebuild, and with the massive comment spam during the last two weeks, it was getting tiresome. And, my MT suffered a crash last November (which Jane was kind enough to fix), and I’d been pondering a switch since then. So, after Blogger, after GreyMatter, and after Movable Type, it’s now time to give WordPress a spin. A bit scary, but so far it’s working out quite well. I’ll keep you posted with “usability” reports and let you know what’s good/bad/ugly about WP!

I love the music, movies, and style of Frank Sinatra; also Mel Torme, Linda Ronstadt (but not her politics!), Dino & Sammy, etc.
In between high school and joining the Air Force, I worked as a waiter, mostly at El Chico’s restaurant. Being a waiter was incredibly fun…very hard work, but what a great way to meet (usually) interesting people.
I enjoy reading movie reviews, sometimes even more than actually seeing movies.
My favorite authors include Ayn Rand, Lawrence Sanders, Piers Anthony (early Xanth, On A Pale Horse), Matt Ruff, and Michael Palmer/Tess Gerritsen/medical thrillers.
I despise alcohol (taste, effects, etc) and will not consume it in any form (no, not even cake).
I am an atheist and an Objectivist (but not a Randroid).
I love to watch television, particularly news channels (Fox News, CNBC, CNN, C-SPAN, MSNBC).
I love to watch Jeopardy, Seinfeld, CSI, Cheers, Match Game, The Simpsons, Duckman, and The Critic.
My favorite foods are steak, cheeseburgers (plain!), McDonald’s french fries, and eggs.
I love old movies, particularly 1940s & 1950s musicals & comedies (Singin’ In The Rain, Cary Grant/Katharine Hepburn, etc).
I love listening to the radio. My favorite program is (was) the Norman Bates Memorial Soundtrack Show on KFJC.
I love coffee. Specifically, coffee from dark, shiny beans, usually French Roast (Starbucks).
I love bagels (sesame’s the best!) with cream cheese…but rarely eat them anymore, since there isn’t a Noah’s Bagels in Montana.
I don’t like vegetables. At all. Well, sometimes corn. I do like certain fruits (apples, bananas), but rarely eat them.
I am married to a wonderful woman and have two beautiful children.
