July 10, 2003Morning StormTuesday morning, I awoke to a gathering storm...and at about 5:30 a.m., I saw some wicked lightning, just a very few raindrops, and the most amazingly fiery sky that I have ever seen. Behold. If that's too scary for you, then check out this picture of a very cute bunny. And one more thing: you are very welcome, Allison; have a happy, happy birthday! OK, just testing...I haven't seen a comment in *ages*, and silly ole me thought that maybe my comments were broken. Heh. Posted by: David at July 10, 2003 08:49 PMThat is truly awesome. I love summer lightning storms. Until they get real windy and nasty, anyway. Reminds me of the first summer we were here in Billings. A storm blew in out of nowhere and the wind was just howling. Well, we went about our business, and I asked the Spousal Unit if she heard anything. She said she hadn't, and I said, "I swear I heard a siren." Long story short, we turned on the TV later, and a tornado blew just north of town, and that was the storm siren I had barely heard, then blissfully ignored. Posted by: mtpolitics at July 10, 2003 09:44 PMClean out your ears, Cammy! Posted by: David at July 10, 2003 09:46 PMOne of the things about modern tornado sirens that a lot of people fail to realize is that they're not designed to be heard indoors. Many of the newer electronic models are puny compared to some of the old civil defense era behemoths. The idea is that, if you're outdoors, the siren is the only warning you have. If you're indoors, you have television, radio, etc. Most small towns still have the older sirens, but many larger cities have been upgrading to the newer, weaker models.
