Good Grief

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" - sponsored by Dolly Madison snack cakes, of course. The piano music always gets to me...either the straight instrumental portion, or the "Christmas time is here..." singing portion. Playing the instrumental piece while driving on a snowy road in sub-freezing temperatures back in November...it truly brought both Winter and the holiday season up close. However...I didn't realize until reading Margi's page the other day that the composer of the Peanuts music, Vince Guaraldi, passed away many years ago.

My favorite scene of the Peanuts christmas special (which I haven't seen in about four or five years): Lucy tells Snoopy that he will have to play all of the animal roles in the xmas play; she asks if he can be a sheep, and he bleats accordingly; she asks if he can do a cow, and he lows convincingly; she asks if he can impersonate a penguin, and he waddles on cue (with funny click-clack noises as his "wings" flap). He then proceeds to shadow-box Lucy, perches on her head like a vulture, and then, when she threatens to pop him, he licks her face. Pure whimsy.

Dave,

I love when they're all dancing around and the one guy is sleep-walking in place. That dance beats the robot any day. Also another good Christmas cartoon is the one with Heatmiser. That's the best Christams song of all time.

Hey Big Dirty! Damn, I miss seeing you dressed up for Halloween and doing The Robot!

Charlie Brown Christmas is great. I like the Thanksgiving one, too, where Snoopy serves popcorn.

I used to say if I ever got a tattoo, it would be Snoopy. But I'm older now and I don't think I'll be getting one. Well, maybe I could find a temporary one. Remember the ones that came in quarter candy machines at the grocery store?
