Hail Satan?

Any other atheists out there getting sick & tired (in a sorta, semi-humourous kind of way) of people asking you if you worship the devil (satan), upon learning that you don't believe in god? Or wondering how on earth you can possibly have any morals or values? I even had one person today ask me if I believed in national borders. Huh?

Which reminds me: you all know about the dyslexic agnostic who suffered from insomnia, right? He stayed up all night wondering if there really was a dog. (rimshot!)

I think us agnostics should come up with our deity, just to get rid of the dumb questions.

"And lo, his name was Melvin. And it was adequate."

Heh..."Melvin." I like it, Oliver!

"Or wondering how on earth you can possibly have any morals or values?"

That's happened so many times that I get a bit testy. I point out that I've put people in jail who needed to be there, and that I've spent all this money and time on the self defense course that I run.

Then I ask what they've done. Pray real hard?

As atheists do you even believe Satan exists? I would think you wouldn't; if you don't believe in ultimate good (God) then how could you believe in ultimate evil (Satan)?

As far as morals and values, well, to me anyway values are more specific and morals are more universal. I would say everybody has values. However an atheist could "value" marriage but still find nothing morally wrong with "gay marriage" because (IMHO anyway) making a moral judgement requires a belief in ultimate good and ultimate evil. Another example would be to "value" the sanctity of human life but find nothing morally wrong with abortion.

That's odd...no one's ever asked me if I worship Satan, although I have had people try to annoint me with oil in my sleep. Hmm...

Love The Idea of Melvin. I for one am a Satanist. We could best be described as "Charismatic Athiests." I have become very tired of xtians and there self righteous bullshit. Especially in light of the inherent hypopcisy of their religion.

Ave Satannas

All Hail Melvin the Adequate!!! : )
