Hi Dad!

March 20: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! The most energetic, hyperactive, kid-at-heart, retired Air Force physician and businessman/sports junkie/humorist/sports junkie/talent agent/sports junkie that the world has ever known. Did I mention that he's a sports junkie? That is the single gene that I did NOT inherit, thank goodness. And yet to this day, whenever we talk on the phone or he visits, he honestly believes that I care about the last 27 seconds of the Lakers game, or the Mets game, or some such. And he spends about 12.7 minutes describing those 27 seconds. He missed his true calling: color announcer for pro sports. Anyway...from last year's birthday post, here are a few interesting facts about Dad...

1. He's been married five times (my mother was wife #2).
2. He's a physician (gastro).
3. Skipped two grades in school, graduated from college at age 20.
4. He was born & raised in the Bronx. He still drives as if he's in NYC.
5. He served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force (and amazingly 20 of those years were spent at the rank of Colonel).
6. He served as hospital commander at five Air Force bases.
7. He loves playing tennis, bridge, and poker.
8. He is Jewish, although not devout.
9. He was an original limited partner in the Phoenix Suns basketball team.
10. He was the owner and president of a minor league football team, The Phoenix Blazers.
11. He is quite a bit more liberal than I am...and a more patriotic American you would be hard-pressed to find.
12. His passion for puns & bad jokes is unrivaled.
13. He loves his family and kids and grandkids.
14. He has watched religiously since 1974 the soap opera "All My Children." Another gene that skipped me entirely...whew.

Your dad has a close facsimile in Omaha, Nebraska. When I first saw the picture, I was like, "How does David know so-and-so?"
