Green Hornet

Nifty...I just caught an episode of "The Green Hornet" on a cable channel. I hadn't realized it until this morning, but the theme music to the show sounded familiar for a reason: it was used in "Kill Bill Volume I" -- IIRC, during the scene when The Bride is riding the motorcycle. It's that crazy "Flight of The Bumblebee" tune, but done in such a jazzy, frenetic manner that it's just too cool.

Which reminds me: RIP, Billy May.

"Flight of the Bumblebee" is considered a sign of mastery of the violin, but Al Hirt was famous for playing it on the trumpet. Damn. I hope you enjoyed Bruce Lee. The Green Hornet turned me onto martial arts in the mid-sixties watching Kato. Watching, not performing, alas. My father also drove a Chrysler Imperial just like the Green Hornet's. Boss, man.

The theme song was performed by the great jazz trumpeter Al Hirt. I was watching Kill Bill and I couldn't beleieve my ears when I heard the Green Hornet theme. but it fit so well what with the bride in her yellow outfit and bike. sort of like a Yellow Jacket don't you think?
