June 02, 2004QuestionOK, class, show of hands: how many of you think that it is acceptable to show a "Veggietales" video in a public-school classroom? How many of you think that it is acceptable for a teacher to ask students who "disagree" with the video to raise their hands? How many of you think that it is acceptable for the teacher to ask the two students that raised their hands to come forward and sit in front of the class, and instruct the class to "ignore" the two students? I've only heard one side of this story so far, but will find out more tomorrow. Posted at June 2, 2004 08:05 PM | TrackBackCOMMENTS!

So.. as much as I love Larry, and Bob and all the other Veggie Tales.. I really think this teacher was wrong wrong wrong. And needs to be beaten with raw vegetables. Posted by: rachel at June 2, 2004 09:53 PMWrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. I'm ambivalent on the showing of the movie, but everything after that is just flat wrong. Not only wrong, but Bad and Wrong. Posted by: Craig at June 3, 2004 06:15 AM
Veggie Tales are perfectly fine for family/congregation viewing, but really has no place in a public school classroom. They're religious cartoons. And I'm a card-carrying member of the ACLU, so the meshing of church/state is never going to be my cup of tea. And the teacher should be disciplined. And...and...well...it saddens me. I'd much rather these battles took place in the courtroom than the classroom.

Not a place for the Veggie Tales - in the classroom - and even more wrong is the antics that followed by the "teacher" Posted by: Monkey at June 3, 2004 09:43 PMPost a comment
