March 09, 2003Holy Camp Reunion!Did you see it? Did you see "Return To The Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam & Burt"? And to think that I almost watched L&O:CI instead...thankfully, I came to my senses and watched what ranks as one of the most purely entertaining TV events in recent memory. Wouldja believe that Adam West is 74 years old, and living in Idaho? And that Burt Ward, 57, now spends time rescuing animals. The show was great...recounting the famous names that graced the screen as super Bat-villains - wow! - Vincent Price, Burgess Meredith, Caesar Romero, Victor Buono, Frank Gorshin, John Astin, Joan Collins, Eartha Kitt, Cliff Robertson, Milton Berle, Otto Preminger, etc. And as far as who the "best" Batman is...well, Adam West really is in a class by himself...none of the modern-era movie Batmen were required to play the role as a parody or as camp. Having said that, I think that Clooney was the best physical model for the movies, but Keaton had the "gravitas" and dark, brooding aura that is necessary to a "Dark Knight" portrayal. And Val Kilmer...blech...completely, totally wrong for Batman. He should have stuck to "Real Genius" and "Top Secret" roles.
From USA Today: "Return stars Adam West and Burt Ward, the series' Batman and Robin, as fictional versions of themselves. When the Batmobile is stolen from a charity event, West and Ward decide to solve the crime. ("This is a job for actors!") While chasing clues, all of which tie into their old show, they reminisce about Batman's short run as a pop icon, from its explosive debut in 1966 to its fizzle-out in 1968...As Ward and West dash around Los Angeles, they run into three of their former co-stars: Lee Meriwether, Frank Gorshin and Julie Newmar. ("The most sensuously seductive pussycat that ever prowled the airwaves.") They also bicker like old chums over who was signed first, who will pick up a check and whose memories are closer to the truth." Posted at March 9, 2003 10:28 PMCOMMENTS!
