Happy Birthday
Today would have been the 89th birthday of Francis Albert Sinatra: the Chairman of The Board, Ol’ Blue Eyes, The Voice. Some of my favorite Sinatra moments: probably “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” but “New York, New York” is simply amazing, too – it epitomizes Frank conquering NYC, and by extension, the world. And I’ve always enjoyed “The Tender Trap” - when he hits that “…just a dot ooooooon the map” section, it’s simply perfect. And of course, for when you’re feeling wistful, absolutely nothing can top ” One For My Baby.” And for my favorite movie, it’s either “On The Town” or “Guys & Dolls.” So what’s your favorite Sinatra song? Favorite movie?

Favorite Sinatra movie? The Manchurian Candidiate (maybe because he isn’t singing).
Favorite Sinatra song? Not a single one. Can’t stand his voice. I couldn’t pick one even with a gun pointed at my head!

To this day when I hear “New York, New York,” it kind of makes me sad. You see, that is the song they play at the end of every Yankee game at The Stadium. Well as a little kid, the Yankees lost every game I went to for the first several years. So I always associated that song with disappointment. But it’s still my favorite, and brings back great memories. Sorry Dave, I had to throw a sports reference in there, but it’s related to the topic!

I never did care much for his acting but ohhhh, I love The Voice. I had a particularly charming boyfriend whom also loved Frankie so, we would dance in the living room to his music. “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” is, of course, a fave – but I also like “I Get a Kick Out Of You” hell, the whole Classic Sinatra CD is a favorite of mine.

I have more Sinatra on the shelf than almost any other singer, and I’m hard-pressed to come up with a single track I can call my favorite - but if I find myself singing along with The Chairman, there’s a good chance it’s “That’s Life.”
