Snob
Am I the only person who kind of…you know…thinks a bit less of BlogSpot-hosted blogs? Not the blogger – just the fact that the blog is BlogSpot-based. I know that I shouldn’t, but if I’m getting ready to click on a link and see the “sitename.blogspot.com” address, I automatically sigh, internally, and almost roll my eyes. Does that make me a bad person?
EDIT: Ack…my apologies to anyone that I offended. I really do appreciate “beginning” bloggers who are able to use BlogSpot to get into blogging, and did NOT mean to slight them. I think the “looking down” aspect comes into play when a well-known blogger who has been around for a while chooses to continue using BlogSpot. It just seems…odd, to me, that someone wouldn’t want their own domain and unique site name. For instance,17 Comments »

Sorry, you’re a snob Dave. Asherah, I can’t go there with you, cuz I don’t know you well enough… but with Dave… heh… game on!

What’s the problem with Blogspot? My blog is hosted there.

I think it’s just the little navigation thing they put at the top that bugs me.

Sorry snobs - not all of us are so computer literate, or have the time & energy to devote that y’all do!

Yes I agree with moos…if we didn’t have the training wheels which Blogspot provides, we probably wouldn’t have blogs at all.

Not only do I look down my nose at them, but AMC blocks out .blogspot.com. So I can’t take a break from protecting the free world to view Ann Althouse or The Diplomad.
Sickening, really.

Actually, I think that Typepad is easier than Blogspot; but, it isn’t free.

Actually, that’s not Daily Kos; that’s Eschaton.

I do think it’s the easiest way to start, but I didn’t like it even when I was on it. Daily, I thank the Munuvian brethren who saw fit to upgrade me after I did (what seems to have become the standard) 6 months with Blogspot.

Honestly I am just plain old lazy. I don’t want to have to do anything more than just write a fun post and be done.:) That, and I don’t know how to do it the other way!
LOL

Well, today I have been attempting to post & comment on my blog & a few other blogspot blogs to no avail. So I’m doing more than rolling my eyes!

I was on blogspot for a couple of years, and I got the feeling that having that URL lessened my street cred (blogosphere cred?). I think getting your own dedicated domain is a subtle sign that you’re more committed, in that you’ve spent time and money to set yourself up (not necessarily the case all the time, but it’s a safe assumption). In this sense, I even look at Typepad with less credence, even though you do have to pay something for it.
The one advantage of using blogspot and other free services, aside from the training wheels phase: Anonymity. I believe Eschaton has cited this as a reason for not graduating to another service.
