June 3, 2005PluralityExplaining why Peter should not be elected to the school board, Lois states: Old Is New (Again)There are few songs that make my ears bleed as much as “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. Don’t get me wrong — Queen was a great band with unique sound, doing rock, glam-rock, synth, dance, and more. And I didn’t mind “BR” the first 39,967 times that I heard it, but after about 1990 it just became painful to hear. I understand that the song enjoyed a resurgence in popularity following one of the “Wayne’s World” movies, but I’m a bit baffled that Sassy and her friends all seem to singing “BR” lately. What appeal does this song have to young teens in 2005? Hmmm…perhaps she saw the Megaman version of the song (found via ManicViking)… June 2, 2005Inquiring MindsLex Icon, the best-named blogger I’ve encountered yet, observes that the identity of “Deep Throat” seems much more obvious, in hindsight, and offers his opinion of Felt. Lex then wonders if the following Unsolved Mysteries (the best kind, eh?) might be solved anytime soon. 1. Who killed Jimmy Hoffa, and where is he? My answers… (more…) June 1, 2005Y - O - BlogsThat’s actually “wyoblogs,” and it’s a great idea from Ron of Focused Forward. The premise is quite simple: “We got tired of not seeing enough Wyoming blogs online. So we decided to allocate some space to provide free blogs and setup for any Wyomingite…” Hey, if you live in Wyoming, you can’t beat that deal with a stick. I know that Wyoming is one of only two states with a smaller population density than Montana, and not a whole lot of bloggers yet, but surely there are voices in the Cowboy State that want to be heard — and this looks like a great opportunity to do so. *snap snap*
Gomez Addams was played to perfection by John Astin: wide-eyed, full of lust for life, one half-step ahead of everyone else, and just barely on this side of manic. And Morticia, as portrayed by Carolyn Jones, was the epitome of sensuality, plus appropriate maternal and wifely concern. And when Tish spoke French, get ready: Gomez nearly went out of his mind with passion. Pretty racy for 1964, I’d wager. Both of them were completely unaware of how they, their family, and their lifestyle were perceived by “normal” people. Lurch was sufficiently stoic, the kids were “strangely” normal, and you can’t beat the names: Pugsley and Wednesday - genius. The only real weak spot was “Thing,” the autonomous hand, which never impressed me and almost single-handedly ruined the two big-screen Addams Family movies, which were competent otherwise. A sop to the younger viewers, no doubt. How could anyone not enjoy this show (or the inspiration)? More to the point, how could anyone prefer “The Munsters” to this show? Close, But No “Throat”Perusing the Deep Throat coverage yesterday and noticed that Jeff Jarvis had a link to Deep Throat Uncovered, which is a journalism class project at the University of Illinois. As of 9:00am on Wednesday morning, the site still maintains that Fred Fielding is/was Deep Throat. Apparently the students had narrowed the possibilities down to seven men: Pat Buchanan, Jonathan Rose, Stephen Bull, David Gergen, Raymond Price, Gerald Warren, and of course Fred Fielding. One name missing from the list: Mark Felt. Too bad the kids didn’t get it right; would have been cool. Wonder if they will update their website? [powered by WordPress.] ON THIS SITE:
