Yay! I got my Blogger t-shirt in the mail on Thursday. Blog! It's quite comfortable.

My wife had a great idea: a new candy bar called "Filibuster!" It would be loaded with chocolate, caramel, and nougat, and it would be offered in peanut butter and non-PB versions. Maybe we could include some a little container of sprinkles and dunking-chocolate, too. Sounds yummy, doesn't it? I wonder if Ted Kennedy could be the spokesmodel...

FWIW: I entered a little contest several weeks ago sponsored by Road Runner. They asked for people to send in very brief reviews of a favorite restaurant. What the hey - I love Biff Buzby's burgers and atmosphere, so I sent in a few sentences. Lo & behold, RR liked my entry and I won a few prizes - mostly snacks, a decorative RR tin, and a $25 gift certificate for future RR (or cable tv) service. If I had known that I would win, I would have written a better review, but, in the words of Homer, "what are ya gonna do?"

How cute! Someone came up with Blogger trading cards, featuring all of your favorite blog-community favorites, like Jason, Megnut, and Ev! Why can't I come up with neat ideas like that? Oh, wait...I've had a few semi-decent (if somewhat wacky) ideas, with a lotta help from my wife. But, seriously, wasn't it just a matter of time before these Blogger trading cards showed up? We already have serial-killer cards, and hunky teen-boy cards, and cheerleader cards, so why not a set devoted to the geekily-brilliant folks who have given us this, our daily Blog (and MeFi, etc)? Love it!

The online scandal of Kaycee and her apparent death are attracting mucho attention. It's even been picked up by MSNBC already. Some are very blase about it, others are quite incensed. Me...well, upon hearing of her "death" I was a bit saddened, but no more than I would be if I had read it in a newspaper. What fascinated me was the on-line community that supported this supposedly sick girl via e-mail, websites, blogs, and occasional mailings of flowers & cards. It all came about via the web - which is really neat. So it was exposed as a nothing but a sham, a fraud...but nobody was really *hurt*, except for a few poor chumps who actually sent "Kaycee" some gift certificates for Amazon.com and some cards and flowers. I understand their concern and compassion, but please...sending tangible items to someone whose identity you can not verify is one of the first things you should put on your "I must never do this" list. What do you think?

The anti-SUV forces appear to be gaining momentum. It absolutely amazes me how ignorant many of them are, and especially how willing some of them seem to be to commit illegal acts & inflict violence & property damage. I love my SUV (driven by my wife) - it's a beautiful vehicle, safe to drive, protects my family, and allows us to shuttle large numbers of children to-and-fro. I have no moral or economic problem filling up the gas tank; paying $1.49 per gallon is OK by me. If the price goes up to the oft-predicted $3.00 per gallon (ha! I doubt it), still no problem. And, no, I don't believe that I/we (SUV owners) are damaging the environment, certainly not enough to make any difference on my or my children's future. And can you believe how hypocritical many of these anti-SUV'rs are? "Driving a big, bad SUV is terrible for the environment...but I'm morally OK because I drive a Chevy Nova, or VW Bug!" Bullshit. If they feel that strongly about the issue, to the point of believing it OK to damage property and engage in illegal activity, they better be driving bicycles or walking everywhere - no vehicles for them at all. Of course, their self-delusion won't permit this - they will continue to drive the vehicle that THEY believe is "eco" or "green" while trying to prevent me from driving MY vehicle of choice.

Hmmm...liquid-y...Homer!...Just a simple gif. And another one:Hmmm...subby...

I am "test driving" Opera, the little-browser-that-could. Reason? My MS Internet Explorer suddenly stopped working. Dead. Kaput. Whacked. Don't know why...but last Sunday, after my daughter downloaded AOL IM and (accidentally) Gator, my MSIE simply ceased to work. It still opens, but it will not connect to any site. All I get is the standard error page. Oddly, when I use MS Outlook 2000 as a browser, it works fine, but as I have dicovered, that option has limitations; for instance, if I click on a link in MS Outlook that is supposed to open in a new window. the window will open, but quickly display the standard error message. Netscape works fine, but I don't care for the layout, the controls, the interface, etc. Hence, I downloaded Opera early this morning. It is indeed fast, and the ad-supported (thus free) version I am using seems to be fairly nice, but it has some quirks. For instance, the text-entry box that I am typing this in right now (on Blogger) is approximately 2 inches wide. This sucks. Does anyone have any ideas at all how I can get MSIE back up & running? I've run tests, I've uninstalled, downloaded from MS, and re-installed, to no avail. I've checked the settings, I've tried tweaking, but nothing works. I want my MSIE back! Until then...I suppose I'll toggle back-n-forth between Opera and MS Outlook.
.This is what the error screen looks like. If you know how I can fix this, !

One of the top ten signs that you have joined the wrong HMO: you ask for Viagra, and you receive a popsicle stick and some masking tape. Another sign: your Prozac comes in many colors and has the letter "M" printed on each one. (Forwarded to me by classmate Tom)

Yeah, baby! Ultra-retro-groovy! I really enjoy this style of architecture!
