Comments On: Hail Satan?
I think us agnostics should come up with our deity, just to get rid of the dumb questions. "And lo, his name was Melvin. And it was adequate." Posted by Oliver at March 2, 2004 06:42 PMHeh..."Melvin." I like it, Oliver! Posted by david at March 2, 2004 06:44 PM"Or wondering how on earth you can possibly have any morals or values?" That's happened so many times that I get a bit testy. I point out that I've put people in jail who needed to be there, and that I've spent all this money and time on the self defense course that I run. Then I ask what they've done. Pray real hard? James Posted by James R. Rummel at March 2, 2004 10:32 PMI can relate. imagine what telling people i read tarot cards does... they really do think i worship satan. I am in fact catholic... although not sure if that's better ;) Posted by Goldie at March 3, 2004 05:31 AMWelcome to my world - I oughta eat a baby just to spite them. Posted by Penda at March 3, 2004 09:28 AMAs atheists do you even believe Satan exists? I would think you wouldn't; if you don't believe in ultimate good (God) then how could you believe in ultimate evil (Satan)? As far as morals and values, well, to me anyway values are more specific and morals are more universal. I would say everybody has values. However an atheist could "value" marriage but still find nothing morally wrong with "gay marriage" because (IMHO anyway) making a moral judgement requires a belief in ultimate good and ultimate evil. Another example would be to "value" the sanctity of human life but find nothing morally wrong with abortion. Posted by Robert Ferrau at March 3, 2004 04:47 PMThat's odd...no one's ever asked me if I worship Satan, although I have had people try to annoint me with oil in my sleep. Hmm...
