If an adult wanted to marry a child, that doesn't deny you any rights, so is that OK? Is there a "right to marry" in your copy of the Constitution that mine doesn't have? A gay person CAN marry. . .as long as who they marry is of the opposite gender. Posted by Robert Ferrau at February 29, 2004 02:31 PMOoops, almost forgot. . .you gotta look at the "papers please" incident this way. In America you DO NOT have to present ID to a cop just because he asks. A cop can not come up to you on the street, ask for ID, and if you don't give it to him arrest you. Well, except for maybe in Nevada nowadays. Its funny though how people can get conditioned to think the cops are not violating rights. An example I stumbled upon is the show "Law and Order." I used to think it was OK until I noticed all the BOR violations these cops commit on the show. I can usually count 2-5, and by no means am I a Constitutional scholar. The most prolific is when they are "investigating an investigation" and knock on someone's door. The person answers, the cops ID themselves and explain their presence. At this time the cops spot something in the house that will help their investigation, so they barge in without permission and start looking around the place, a clear violation of the 4th Amendment (cops cannot come into your house unless you invite them in, then anything they spot that is a violation of law can be used against you, however there are limits to it, like it has to be in your "grabable area"). I always wondered why the defense attorney never brings this up in the trial phase of L&O. Posted by Robert Ferrau at February 29, 2004 02:45 PMPost a comment
