You could rename the DoD the Department of Whoopass :P

It was a mistake renaming the Department of War in 1947. I like your idea of correcting the mistake. :)

I think we should rename the Air Force "Starfleet Command" (who else controls the heavens? The EU? Heh). We should rename the Marines "Starship Troopers" 'cause they always get there on the bounce.

Any suggestions for the Navy, Coast Guard and Army?

We should rename the Justice Dept the "Dept of Taking away civil rights, one PATRIOT Act at a Time." The BATF could be renamed Dept of Jack-Booted Thugs. The FBI to "Dept of Shoot first, ask questions later." Dept of Homeland Security could become "Dept of Vague, Color-Coded Meaningless terrorist threat levels." Or "Dept of Border, what Mexican Border??"

So Gun Guy, blow up any Federal Buildings lately?

Department of Doom wouldn't require changing the acronym.

First of all stryker, I am an Okie and I was in the AF, stationed at Tinker when the bombing occured. I was part of a large contingent of volunteers from Tinker to go pick through the rubble looking for body parts, so you can take your lame attempt at a joke and stick it. Contrary to ignorant opinion, McVeigh was not a member of any militia. In fact, he was kicked out of the one meeting he did attend of the Michigan Militia. Jayna Davis (formerly of News 4 in OKC) has compelling evidence that was he was backed by islamists, however your government has been stonewalling her when she confronts them with evidence. Steven Jones, the lawyer who defended him, insists the government withheld thousands of pages of evidence collected from their investigation. And ol' Tim was put to death might quickly after he was convicted, doncha think?

Bottom line is most gun guys and gals just want to be left alone, by the government and ignorant sheeple like yourself. We aren't members of any militias, we don't dress up in BDUs and go on manuveurs on weekends. We just don't like it when the government encroaches on our God-given rights, whether it be the second amendment (every gun "law" on the books), 1st amendment (PATRIOT ACT 1, campaign finance reform), 4th or any of the amendments in the Bill of Rights. The US Constitution, you should read it some time, especially the Bill of Rights. You also might want to check out the Federalist Papers and see just what the founding fathers were thinking when they created the greatest document in the history of man. Finally you should stop getting your news from CNN and look around you. Stop bleating the party line and educate yourself about how government keeps getting bigger and your basic human rights keep diminishing, a little here and a little there at a time. If you are Sgt Stryker I suggest you remember the oath you took when you enlisted in the military, that is to uphold and defend the US Constitution against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.

Oh, I'm sorry. In light of your explanation, let me re-phrase that: So gun guy, blown up any abortion clinics lately?

"remember the oath you took when you enlisted in the military, that is to uphold and defend the US Constitution against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC."

What do you think you are?

About what I expected, and if you look into it it is what you will get if PATRIOT Act II passes. According to PA II, a "domestic terrorist" could be defined as anyone who advocates policing the police, human/civil rights, etc. What is scary is that stryker took an oath to defend a document and he has no clue what it means. Because I believe less government is better, because I believe the best way to defend yourself is with a gun, because I believe in questioning the effectiveness of current policies toward "homeland defense," in stryker's mind I am a "domestic terrorist." This is the kind of thinking that has let our current federal government become the bloated bureaucracy that is. I voted for Bush, but until he gets SERIOUS about homeland security, until he repeals the unconstitutional laws he's signed, until he stops advocating tax cuts for people who paid no federal income tax, until he stops advocating "amnesty" for illegal aliens to procure the Hispanic vote, I think I will have to vote Libertarian. If that makes me a domestic terrorist because I question the government that is allegedly "of the people, by the people, for the people," than I am a domestic terrorist.

Thomas Jefferson said every society needs a revolution every 20 years. We are long overdue for one. No, I am not saying we need to take up arms against the government (yet), as under current illegal and unconstitutional laws it would be highly ineffective. I think the next American revolution has to be in the voting booth, when people are tired of voting for "the lesser of 2 evils," i.e. Dems or Repubs. There are other choices out there folks, and you can make a difference.

Am I a domestic terrorist? You can judge for yourself. I believe in the Constitution, I believe our current fed govt would make the founding fathers roll over in their graves. Our current tax rate is HIGHER than the one the British Crown imposed on the American settlers in the time leading up to the 1st American Revolution. And believe me, I've heard all the insults from government-school educated sheeple like Stryker; "terrorist," "gun nut," "Tim McVeigh Jr." That's why you will notice I am pretty prepared in my responses and all he has to offer is petty bleating.

Finally, all I am saying is open your eyes a bit. Read some of the legislation that YOUR representatives are voting on. Hold YOUR representatives responsible because they are supposed to serve YOU. Don't just vote Dem or Repub; look for viable third-party candidates in your area, whether they are Green, Reform, Libertarian, whatever. Then maybe some of the entrenched thinking in DC will change. That may make you a "domestic terrorist" to sheeple like Stryker, but to me and many others another name suits you better: Patriot.

I've been completely unfair. So, made Ned Beatty squeal like a pig lately?

Great posts Gun Guy! Finally someone with sense on my bro-in-law's site! (Just kidding Dave). I also voted for Dubya, but some of the things he's been doing lately have me leaning toward the Lib or Constitution Party, although unlike you I haven't decided to completely make the switch (strong lean though). I was at Tinker also when the Murrah Building was bombed. . .didn't go down there as I had reconstructive knee surgery a few months prior to Apr 1995 and the doc didn't want me walking through a bombed out building. Some guys from my shop did though. Hey, maybe I knew ya? What unit were you in? How long were you there? Email me if you want.

And if I were you I would just ignore stryker. I mean, it is hard and all considering how intelligent he sounds with each passing post (sarcasm off), but I've dealt with people like him, and it is like talking to a liberal. . .you present facts, they call you names. He sounds like some officers and Senior NCOs at my last assignment who would laugh and snicker at me for having the Bill of Rights posted on my desk. You are right. . .a lot of people on active duty have no flipping idea what the Constitution is, what it means or the history behind it, yet they swear to uphold and defend it every time they enlist/re-enlist. Scary.
