Are the geese getting too damn lazy to fly? When I was a kid, geese flew north. And they flew south, too, and they liked it! What won't they think of next. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal last week, many waterfowl which USED to migrate have since bred with domestic varieties, producing a hybrid that will not leave. Whether this is due to the loss of the ability to migrate or a certain fondness for the bread the people at the park toss their way isn't exactly clear. The numbers of some of the geese and ducks at certain cities and towns have gotten so far out of hand that they've petitioned the US Dept. of the Interior for a relaxation of some hunting laws. More ducks/geese can be harvested at these places than in the rest of the state. This has resulted in many happy hunters, and home owners relieved that the poop isn't being slathered on their lawns any more.PETA and their ilk are mighty peeved, though. James Posted by James R.
